On Friday, Drew Brannon will head north from his Miami, FL home while Butch Miller and the rest of the SS Green Light Racing team will head southwest from Charlotte, NC. The parties will meet Saturday at the New Senoia Speedway south of Atlanta for the third race in the 2009 ASA Late Model South Series schedule; the Georgia Showdown 100.
The season has started on a positive note for Butch and Brannon with back-to-back second place qualifying efforts that have resulted in a season-opening victory at Charlotte County Motorsports Park and a solid second place effort at the South Georgia Motorsports Park last week giving the sixteen year old a solid 36 point advantage over Brandon Johnson in the ASALMS South Division point standings.
“The season could not have started better for us. Butch and the whole SS Green Light team have come together to the same page in a very short period of time.” said young Brannon. “I have so much confidence in the car and how it’s going to handle, how the car reacts to the changes that we make to it. The whole #08 team just works together so well and we all get along great. We mixed-in some people that had never worked together and Butch just leads us the right way, it’s just incredible how good we have started out the 2009 season.”
Miller believes part of the success lies squarely on the new chassis set-up the team is running this year. “This chassis is a little different than we have run in the past, but Harley and Port City have come up with a great chassis and we’ve been able to get a set-up in this car that Drew really likes and its comfortable for him. We only have one of these chassis right now, so I’m real glad that Drew has taken care of it the last two races. We should be getting a second car put together soon so we will have a back up that is the same design as our primary. The guys on the SS Green Light team have done a fantastic job getting this car ready and that shows when we get to the track.”
The SS Green Light #08 team is supported by ASI Limited, Spectrum Metal Finishing & Akzo Nobel and will compete in both the ASA Late Models South Division and the ASA Challenge Division for the 2009 racing season. After two events, Brannon leads Justin Larson by 36 points in the ASA Late Model South Division standings.
Drew’s thoughts on New Senoia Motorsports Park: “I’m really looking forward to going to New Senoia this weekend. I’ve never run there, but I have watched from the stands so at least I know what to expect when we get there. I trust Butch will help me learn how to get around if I have any troubles. It’s a little three-eighths mile bullring and it I think the ASA South teams will provide for some great racing for the fans in the stands. We get a month off after this week so I really want to keep our momentum rolling going into the break.”
The ASA Senoia Showdown 100 take place on Saturday April 4th with practice beginning at 1:0pm, qualifying at 5:00pm and the 100-lap Senoia Showdown green flag will fall at 8:30pm eastern time.
