WARSAW, Ind. - Coming off the best finish of the season, Warsaw, Indiana-based ML Motorsports returns this weekend to the site of its best-ever finish. In addition, this weekend marks Shelby Howard’s debut at Talladega Superspeedway in a Nationwide Series car.
ML Motorsports, which finished 14th in its most recent race at Nashville Superspeedway with 23-year-old driver Shelby Howard behind the wheel of Mary Louise Miller’s No. 70 Chevrolet, comes to Talladega Superspeedway this week with a new driver and a new attitude. The goal is come away with a top-five finish, the result of their last trip to the 2.66-mile restrictor-plate track.
After replacing Mark Green, who drove the No. 70 Chevrolet to a fifth-place finish at Talladega last spring, Howard has competed in two NASCAR Nationwide Series races this season. In his first race with ML Motorsports, the Greenwood, Indiana native was running 24th with six laps to go at Texas Motor Speedway. A flat right, rear tire relegated Howard and Team 70 to a 32nd-place finish. In his next outing, Howard was among 22 drivers on the lead lap, finishing 14th at Nashville.
Though ML Motorsports has enjoyed much of its Nationwide Series success in short-track competition, the team is confident in Howard’s ability to put the Foretravel Motorcoach in the lead pack at Talladega.
After Howard’s top-15 finish at Nashville, the team is hoping to keep its momentum going.
Howard and ML Motorsports are scheduled to compete in 17 more Nationwide Series races together this season.
