Richmond, VA – Denny Hamlin, NASCAR Sprint Cup driver of the FedEx #11 car, announced a new fundraising effort by his Foundation to purchase new outpatient therapy equipment for the Richmond Children’s Hospital.
“We are hoping to raise $10,000 to buy new recreational therapy equipment for the Hospital,” Hamlin said. Children from the Richmond Children’s Hospital Recreation Therapy Department colored pictures that captured the theme, “Make it Happen.” The Denny Hamlin Speed Wash in Midlothian, VA and Fredericksburg, VA will display the artwork from September 11, 2009 through November 11, 2009. They will accept donations on behalf of the Foundation.
“The children’s determination to overcome challenges they face every day is such an inspiration to me,” Hamlin said. “What they do is so much more difficult than winning a NASCAR race, and they do it with courage and style.”
The Denny Hamlin Speed Wash will also donate a portion of each car wash to the cause. “We are happy to help out with this worthy cause,” Aaron McDade, owner of the Denny Hamlin Speed Wash said. “I am honored to have this precious artwork on display for the entire community to enjoy.”
“Please stop by and see these truly amazing pictures. They touched my heart, and they will touch yours,” Hamlin said.
Denny Hamlin Foundation donated $20,000 earlier this year to the Richmond Children’s Hospital’s new Recreational Therapy facility under construction in Chesterfield County. The Hospital provided 59,834 therapy visits last year. Services include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Psychology offered in four locations in Petersburg, Fredericksburg, Glen Allen and Chesterfield, VA including Main Hospital. The Therapy Centers are in constant need of new and upgraded equipment. Examples include: Therapy Mats, Treadmills, Mat Tables, Therapy Balls, Exercise Equipment, Strength Building Equipment and Specialty Bicycles.
