2009 Copart 200 NCWTS at GIR Race Results

Mike Skinner
Mike Skinner
Mike Skinner, with the green-white-checkered flag laps to go, held off Raybestos Rookie contender Johnny Sauter to win his second consecutive NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, as he took the checkered flag during the Copart 200 at Gateway International Raceway.

This was Skinner’s 28th series career victory, his third of the 2009 season, and his first at Gateway.

In what seemed to be another victory in the series points leader’s grasp, the restart on lap 154 turned ugly for Ron Hornaday Jr. (who led the most laps) as he was sent spinning by second in the points, Matt Crafton, bringing out the 2nd red flag of the race. Crafton, who had just finished spinning out Todd Bodine to bring out the previous red caution, did almost the exact same thing to Hornaday on the restart. NASCAR deemed the move by Crafton to be too aggressive and was sent to the rear of the field, and ended up finishing sixth.

Hornaday now leads Crafton, unofficially, by 197 points.

Following Skinner and Sauter to the drop of the checkered flag were Brian Scott finishing third, Aric Almirola fourth, Raybestos Rookie contender Tayler Malsam fifth, Matt Crafton sixth, Timothy Peters seventh, Stacy Compton eighth, Ryan Sieg ninth and Rick Crawford rounds out the top-10 finishers.
