KANSAS CITY, Kansas (October 5, 2009) – - Win-Tron Racing driver Beau Slocumb looked more like a veteran than a rookie last Thursday at Kansas Speedway as the Macon, Georgia native propelled the No. 32 Wolfpack Rentals Toyota Camry to a stout fifth place finish in the Kansas Lottery 150.

The run was a career-best effort for the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour standout in four career starts and betters his ninth place effort at Toledo Speedway last month.

After taking a two-race break from the controls of the Lakeville, Minnesota based team, Slocumb received a call from team officials early last week telling him he would get a chance to better his 12th place run in his ARCA debut at Chicagoland Speedway.

Promising to car owners Kevin Cywinski and Nate Thiesse he would be on his game, the team was looking forward to the 20th race of the year.

Quickly, Slocumb would live up to his word by bolting his Wolfpack Rentals Racing team to second on the practice rundown, just over one-tenths of a second behind session leader Jesse Smith.

The team was happy with the effort but disappointed that Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying would be cancelled after Mother Nature drenched the track the night before which subsequently forced ARCA officials to readjust their one-day schedule.

Still, the cancellation would line the Win-Tron Racing team fourth on the starting grid based on their owner points accrued during the 2009 season.

It was evident from the drop of the green flag that Slocumb was up on the wheel and driving hard while hovering between third and fifth in the run-down for much of the event’s first half. Several yellow flags early would keep Slocumb from giving Crew Chief Mike Chafee a clear indication how his machine was handling, but by the lap times put down by the No. 32 Toyota, Slocumb had one of the fastest machines on the track.

Never leaving the top-10 at all during his first tango with Kansas Speedway, a late-race caution allowed one final attempt for Slocumb to challenge the leaders. On the restart, Slocumb would make a gallant effort at nine-time ARCA champion Frank Kimmel, but the No. 44 Ford would pull ahead of Slocumb’s Toyota at the checkered flag.

“It was a quiet top-five finish, but a well-deserved one for Beau and the team and we’re ecstatic,” said Win-Tron Racing General Manager Nate Thiesse. “From the moment we unloaded, Beau was focused and ready to deliver. He easily surpassed all of our expectations for this race, especially after we weren’t able to test with him a couple weeks ago. He is adjusting to these much heavier cars better than I think anyone expected. He is a real joy to work with and he definitely has a future in stock car racing.”

Slocumb has been a special inspiration to the Win-Tron Racing team this year. Just weeks before Slocumb was scheduled to make his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut at Daytona International Speedway, he was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma, a form of Cancer. To cure the disease, Slocumb would have to go through rounds of chemotherapy which would keep the short track ace out of the cockpit. After months of recovery and remission, Slocumb, thanks to Win-Tron Racing conquered his ARCA RE/MAX Series dream at Chicagoland Speedway.

“To hear the story of Beau Slocumb has touched our hearts at Win-Tron Racing,” added Thiesse. “He is a true inspiration to us and every cancer survivor out there. We’re just proud to have had the opportunity to work with not only a talented driver but a great person as well.”

Next up for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is the 2009 season finale from Rockingham Speedway. The ARCA RE/MAX American 200 is set for Sunday, October 11 set to roll off at 1:00 p.m. In April, Win-Tron Racing protégé Matt Merrell negotiated his first career-top-five ARCA finish by boasting an impressive third place run in the No. 32 Colin’s Hope-Red Line Oil Dodge Charger.
