Cunningham Motorsports Prepares for Salem
Press ReleaseStratham, GA (April 1, 2009)--Cunningham Motorsports returns to ARCA REMAX Series racing this weekend at Salem Speedway. Cunningham Motorsports will field two cars in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 with veteran Ken Weaver behind the wheel of the #4 Tricolor Dodge Charger and rookie Parker Kligerman piloting the #77 Cunningham Driver Development Dodge Charger. This will be the second race of the ARCA REMAX series schedule following a short break after the race at Daytona International Speedway.
The second race of the season brings with it two goals. The first is to put the #4 Tricolor Dodge Charger and the #77 Cunningham Driver Development Dodge in a top starting position. The second goal is to lead as many laps as possible including the last one. The teams had a fantastic test at Salem last week and are anticipating a good run at the tough ½ mile Salem track. Strategies for this race are simple; qualify up front and finish up front.
Coming off strong finishes at Daytona the Cunningham Motorsports teams are ready to get back to racing and improve on their previous finishes. They are seeking to maintain a winning status as the schedule gets busy for the rest of the 2009 season. This veteran organization has the right tools for a successful weekend at Salem where fans will pack the speedway to witness one of the most exciting races of the year. Salem Speedway is a .555 mile track that should prove to hold some fantastic short track racing, which is a complete 360 degree transformation from Daytona International Speedway, where the teams last competed. Cunningham Motorsports spent their off time practicing at the infamous Rockingham Speedway in preparation for the upcoming races.
Ken Weaver and Parker Kligerman are looking forward to the battle of old against new this weekend. An experienced veteran, Weaver, versus a hungry rookie, Kligerman, will show to be an interesting inner team battle. Ken Weaver has been in the business for many years accompanied by plenty of racing experience in many facets of stock car racing, where as, Parker Kligerman is an up and coming rookie looking to prove himself in the top ranks of stock car racing. It will be an interesting race weekend between Cunningham teammates and all the rest of the ARCA REMAX competitors.
Driver of the #4 Tricolor Dodge, Ken Weaver stated, “I remember the first time I went to Salem to test. I thought what a rough track; why would anyone want to race here? Now after testing and racing Salem several times, I understand why Kenny Schrader runs this track every chance he gets. It is so demanding but at the same time so much fun to drive. It will bite you if you don’t stay focused on the race. I really like the new tire we are using. They are well suited for the track and don’t fall off like the old tire did a few years ago. I’m having a blast with my team and we are getting to know our strengths and, in my case, our weaknesses. Paul Andrews, my crew chief, is extremely talented and smart. If I can drive the cars he gives me to their full potential, I truly feel that we will be able to achieve our goal of winning the championship. I can’t wait to get back to Salem this week to see how we measure up against Kenny Schrader, Frank Kimmel and all the other competitors. One thing I know for sure is that it will be a great race for both the drivers and all the great ARCA fans.”
“We had a good test in Salem and are looking to make a statement this weekend about our two race teams. Both the #4 team with driver Ken Weaver and the #77 team with driver Parker Kligerman did a great job in the testing last week. We are off to a good start and are focusing on the big picture this year. We have a good plan for the race at Salem on Sunday. We have done a lot of testing in preparation for the season and the forth coming events. Our goal is to have a solid performance,” said General Manager Mark Gibson.
The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 by Federated Car Care ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Salem will roll off on Sunday afternoon April 5th at 2:15 pm. Practice for the race is from 12:30 to 2:00pm Saturday afternoon, April 4th with SIM Factory Pole Qualifying for the RE/MAX Series following at 3:30. The 200 lap event will be broadcasted on ARCA Radio Network.
