Patrick Sheltra’s recovered from Daytona wreck and ready for Talladega
Caught in the Catchfence™Patrick Sheltra doesn’t remember much about the horrific wreck at Daytona during the February ARCA race.
“I was knocked out. I don’t remember anything,” Sheltra said Wednesday at Talladega Superspeedway, where his team was participating in a two-day test session for the April 24 ARCA race. “I just heard the spotter say, ‘The (No.) 6 just spun you out.’”
The next thing he knew he was strapped to a board and off to the hospital for an extended stay with cracked vertebrae and a dislocated knee cap.
Fortunately for Sheltra’s career the ARCA schedule has a huge gap between the season-opener at Daytona and the second race at Salem Speedway last weekend. It was enough time for Sheltra to heal.
And he didn’t have any second thoughts or fears about climbing back into the car.
“Nah,” he said, laughing, “I’m too stupid for that.”
