Rookie Joey Coulter Looking to Capitalize at Toledo Speedway
Press Release“We are posting some impressive runs and have had great top-10 runs; it’s just unfortunate that we’ve had our share of bad luck this season,” said Coulter.
In last week’s Drive Smart. Buckle-Up! Kentucky 150 18-year-old rookie Joey Coulter put on a strong performance running in the top-10 for the majority of the race until bad luck on lap 71 sent the No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation/Tempest Cycles Chevrolet behind pit wall.
Crew members worked meticulously to replace the drive plate and on lap 83 Coulter was able to return to racing action. “The team fought hard to get me back on the track to gain as many points as we could,” stated Coulter. “Kentucky is a great racetrack and it was a lot of fun to drive on; I’m confident that we will be better when we come back in July.”
Coulter looks ahead to Toledo Speedway this weekend as redemption for him and his No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation/Tempest Cycles Chevrolet. Coulter built his resume running on short tracks in 2007-08, competing in the USAR Pro Cup Series and NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Series where he has recorded an impressive four front row starts, six top-fives and 15 top-10 finishes. In 2008 Coulter captured his first Late Model win at the season ending prestigious Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, NC.
“I’ve never been to Toledo; however I have high expectations to going back to a short track because I’ve already proven that I’m a strong competitor,” Coulter said. “Look at how well we ran at Salem, we qualified third out of a 29 car field, and had a top-five car for sure. We fought with a mechanical issue early in the race and still managed to take home a 16th place.”
Coulter’s weekend activities kick-off Friday, May 15, with an autograph session at Toledo Speedway from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. The autograph session is in support of the Sunday, May 17, Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Toledo Speedway.
ARCA RE/MAX Series practice is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, followed by Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 3:30 p.m. The Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care will take the green flag at 2:15 p.m. EST on Sunday, May 17.
