Peyton Sellers Puts on a Show for Sponsor at Kansas
Press ReleaseThe team’s primary sponsor, SFP, is headquartered in nearby Leawood, Kansas. The innovative agricultural company turned out with employees, dealers and growers for the weekend, and the Peyton Sellers faithful were not disappointed in the action.
Weather was a factor in the ARCA RE/MAX Series race when rain canceled qualifying. Sellers was forced to start at the rear, in 38th position. The track conditions went through a dramatic change when the sun hit the track an hour before the drop of the green flag, sending teams scrambling for adjustments. Sellers was already fast though, moving to 14th place by lap 22 of the 150 lap race.
The bright orange #47 SFP Chevrolet then suddenly came to a halt on the backstretch when the alternator went. After being pushed to the pits, his crew went to work, and Sellers returned to the rear of the field. Sellers continued to pick his way back through the pack, finishing 13th for the night.
The Cardinal Motorsports team then took to the 1.5 mile Kansas Speedway tri-oval again for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Saturday. Sellers qualified 32nd among the 51 cars vying to make the field for the race.
Sellers began to steadily gain ground early, and worked his way to 21st place in front of an estimated 81,000 fans. A slight touch on the wall coming out of turn two caused contact with a car behind, shoving the #77 SFP Chevrolet back into the wall again hard along the backstretch. The car suffered damage to both the chassis and the brakes, and Sellers settled for a 33rd place finish for the day.
“We had two really good cars this weekend,” said Sellers. “Despite the couple of mishaps, we still put on a good show. As a new team, we’ve come a long way together this year. SFP has been a tremendous partner for us.”
The team also has an association with one of the country’s largest non-profit student organizations, SkillsUSA. Cardinal Motorsports is also sponsored by Jig-A-Loo USA and Bosch, both of whom are supporters of SkillsUSA.
The team’s last scheduled race of their eleven planned races this season will be in Charlotte in two weeks.
