NASCAR gaining driver from India / Hong Kong?
Caught in the Catchfence™Drivers Narain Karthikeyan from India and Darryl O’Young from Hong Kong were brought in last weekend for the ARCA test at Daytona International Speedway by Starbeast Motorsports, which has a partnership with JTG-Daughtery (which has a partnership with Michael Waltrip Racing).
The word is that Karthikeyan would like to join NASCAR sooner rather than later, according to Auto123.com. He’s a vet of Formula One and the 24 Hours of LeMans. He apparently really enjoyed himself on the NASCAR track, but did not like getting into his car through his window. “The weird thing, it was difficult getting into the car — literally. Putting your legs inside the car and twisting your body. A couple of times I had my helmet on and it got battered and scratched,” he told the site.
He says he got used to the bumpy track and the overabundance of movement by the car after three times around the track. He said that NASCAR is “one of the options for next year if these guys can put it together. I’d love to have a go at it.”
