Kimberly-Clark Helps A&P Celebrate Sesquicentennial
Press Release“No. 27 Kleenex Ford Fusion paint scheme to feature grocer’s non-profit partner MDA”
DALLAS, TX, May 18, 2009 – Kimberly-Clark Corporation today announced the No. 27 Kleenex Ford Fusion will sport a uniquely-designed paint scheme for the upcoming NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Dover International Speedway. The new paint scheme will help K-C’s retail partner, The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. (A&P), celebrate its 150th anniversary and support the grocer’s more than 20-year partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).As part of the long-standing partnership between K-C and A&P, the paint scheme recognizes the retailer’s key milestone anniversary, as well as its ongoing commitment to the MDA. The hood of the race car will don the A&P anniversary logo with the tag line “A partnership built to last.” Special drawings created by more than a dozen children from the MDA also will be incorporated into the design of the car.
“We value our ongoing relationship with A&P and this racing-themed initiative is a great way for us to honor the grocer and celebrate its achievements,” Kimberly-Clark Regional Director Deborah Jeram said. “Kimberly-Clark is pleased to provide A&P with the opportunity to showcase its milestone anniversary and sponsorship of the MDA through the use of the No. 27 Kleenex Ford Fusion.”
As part of the celebration, fans can visit NASCAR.com to bid on an authentic firesuit worn by Jason Keller, driver of the No. 27 Kleenex Ford Fusion, during the upcoming race on May 30. All of the proceeds will be donated to the MDA. Additionally, now until June 4, consumers who purchase $30 worth of participating Kimberly-Clark products using their A&P club card will receive a $5 coupon good on their next A&P shopping trip.
“We are deeply committed to working with MDA on its important mission to find a cure for neuromuscular diseases and to help those inflicted with this devastating disease,” A&P Senior Vice President Paul Wiseman said. “By partnering with Kimberly-Clark’s NASCAR platform, our employees and shoppers are able to support MDA in a new and even more innovative way. Helping others is an important aspect of A&P’s legacy and it makes this partnership even more relevant as we celebrate our 150th anniversary as the oldest grocery retailer in the United States.”
A&P’s ongoing sponsorship of the MDA transcends well beyond the race track and includes taking part in many charitable initiatives annually, including the Shamrocks Against Dystrophy, the A&P MDA Charity Golf Classic, the “Aisles of Smiles” program and a day at MDA Summer Camp.
In addition to the one-of-a-kind paint scheme, the No. 27 team will have a customized pit box, pit wall banner and uniforms with prominent A&P and MDA branding. Prior to the Heluva Good! 200 at Dover International Speedway Saturday, May 30, show cars featuring the paint scheme will make appearances at the A&P headquarters and select stores around the region.
