Nationwide Series Driver Michael Annett to Throw First Pitch at Iowa Cubs Game
Press Releasethe NASCAR Nationwide Series circuit, Des Moines native Michael Annett
will venture to his home state to Principal Park in Des Moines, Iowa for
NASCAR Night with the Iowa Cubs as they take on Omaha tonight. Annett and
fellow NASCAR Nationwide Series competitor Brian Ickler will preview the
game with an autograph session for fans from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. before
the first pitch is thrown at 7 p.m.
Before heading to the stadium for the big game, Annett will sign
autographs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for sponsor HYPE Energy Drinks at the
Ankeny, Iowa Kum and Go gas and convenient store location. HYPE will be
providing free samples of their three popular energy drink flavors, and
visitors can test their skills against Annett in a NASCAR race simulator.
Kum and Go locations in 12 states throughout the U.S. now carry these
three HYPE Energy Drinks selections.
Annett will then visit local radio station 1460 KXNO for an in-studio
interview. Be sure to listen to Annett on the Des Moines sports
station’s “Murph and Andy” show with hosts Keith Murphy and Andy
Fales live at 2:30 p.m.
Next, Annett will stop by US Cellular, sponsor of Iowa Speedway’s US
Cellular 250 presented by Northland Oil and TMC Transportation, from 3
p.m. to 4 p.m. at their Altoona, Iowa location. In addition to competing
in the Nationwide Series race at Iowa on August 1, Annett will drive a US
Cellular sponsored USAC Silver Crown car in Iowa Speedway’s USAC Silver
Crown Challenge on Friday, July 31.
Annett looks forward to returning to Des Moines to throw out the first
pitch at the Iowa Cubs game, and is especially eager to compete at Iowa
Speedway in two weeks for the Nationwide Series US Cellular 250 presented
by Northland Oil and TMC Transportation in Germain Racing’s No. 15
Northland Oil Toyota Camry.
“I’m excited to set foot on my home turf in Iowa. Iowa Speedway is my
home track and a place where I have a lot of experience, so I’m really
looking forward to the inaugural Nationwide Series race there” said
Annett. “The Iowa Cubs have given us a great opportunity to come out and
preview the race at Iowa Speedway. Throwing out the first pitch should be
an exciting experience, and it will be great for NASCAR and Iowa Speedway
to have a big presence at the game tonight,” said Annett who holds the
record for most competitive laps at Iowa Speedway.
In between traveling to his home state of Iowa for the Cubs game and the
Iowa race, Annett will continue the three week stretch of short track
racing for the Nationwide Series in Indianapolis, Indiana for O’Reilly
Raceway Park’s Kroger 200. Coming off of his best finish this season at
Gateway International Raceway, Annett and his No. 15 Germain Racing team
look forward to Saturday’s Kroger 200 at ORP. Annett was the highest
finishing Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate in Gateway’s
Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 presented by Ventrilo, finishing
seventh for his second time this season.
“Our top-10 finish definitely gives us confidence going into ORP and
Iowa. Germain Racing’s Nationwide Series short track program just keeps
improving. Seventh place at Gateway proves that we’ve got what it takes
for the next two weeks of short track racing,” said Annett.
The one-day show for the Nationwide Series at O’Reilly Raceway Park
starts Saturday with practice from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Final
practice runs from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and qualifying for the Kroger
200 begins at 5:05 p.m. with a live broadcast on ESPN 2. The green flag
drops for the race at 8 p.m. Watch and listen live to the Nationwide
