Joey Logano / No. 20 GameStop Toyota Watkins Glen Preview
Press Release
Advertisment

Huntersville, N.C. – When Joey Logano is behind the wheel of the No. 20 GameStop Toyota he is always considered to be one of the drivers to beat. While he is not running a full NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule in 2009, Logano had not skipped more than one week of competition in that series. However, he has not piloted the GameStop Toyota since his win at Chicago in early July. Up next is Watkins Glen International, one of the two road course curveballs that dot the schedule.

Road course racing is something that drivers either love or despise. Many look at it as a nice break from the monotony of the season and gives them the opportunity to make left and right hand turns, like their counterparts in Formula One and the Grand-Am Series. Logano is one of those drivers. He has shown maturity beyond his years in all aspects of his stock car career, but his road course prowess has been notable. Logano started 12th and ran up front most of the day in his first Sprint Cup Series race at another road course, Infineon Raceway, in June. He grabbed a top-ten finish in his only Nationwide start at Watkins Glen, which came in 2008.

Logano has continued to keep building momentum as the season has progressed. Watkins Glen should provide him the opportunity for another strong run.

Joey Logano Quotes

“When you are on a roll and coming off a win, like we were with the GameStop Toyota, it is hard to sit out a few races. You want to stay in there because you don’t know how long it will last. These cars are so awesome to drive. Dave (Rogers, crew chief) and all the guys on the team are unbelievable in how they prepare these cars for the track. Like Dave has said before, this is our turn at the top. We don’t want to rest on our accomplishments or take anything for granted because we know that there are teams out there working just as hard as we are. One slip and they will catch us. So the fear of that happening drives us just as much as our love of winning.”

“I really enjoy road course racing and I’ve worked hard to make it a strong part of my skill set. Obviously it is not something we do on a regular basis so it is always challenging. I’ve raced at both Watkins Glen and Infineon and “the Glen” is definitely the faster of the two tracks. You have two long straights that lead to some pretty heavy braking zones. Infineon is more of a finesse track, but at Watkins Glen you can hustle the car around and make up some time. The GameStop Toyota was fast there last year. Hopefully we can go back, improve on where we finished last year and challenge for the win.”
