“MacDonald Motorsports Schedules Murphy for Watkins Glen-Bristol”

Watkins Glen, NY – Sean Murphy completed his first ever NASCAR Nationwide Series event on Saturday for the U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway. Murphy started 38th and finished 27th after an early race incident. Murphy entered the race with a sense of patience, just wanting to settle in and pilot his #81 MacDonald Motorsports Dodge slowly towards the front half of the field. But on lap 12 coming off turn-4 Murphy received a welcome to the Nationwide Series bump from the rear by eventual 2nd place finisher and NASCAR CUP Series veteran Kyle Busch. Murphy’s car spun making contact with the outside wall.

“My spotter said he was there and I would have given up the position, but he [Busch] didn’t have enough patience I guess,” expressed Murphy. “I felt really bad as one of my main goals was not tear up the car. These guys at MacDonald Motorsports are doing a lot with a little and they don’t have the budget to be tearing stuff up. I think it could have been avoided and it was very disappointing to have that happen so early on in the race. I’m thankful the team was able to get us back out on the track. We gained some positions and I was able to finish out the race.”

Murphy to Pilot the #81 for MacDonald Motorsports at Watkins Glen – Bristol

A week ago Sean Murphy wasn’t sure what he’d be racing. He received a last minute phone call last week to drive at Iowa Speedway and now he’ll race at least two scheduled events for MacDonald Motorsports. With no time to spare, Murphy is already preparing for the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International Raceway this Saturday August 8th. It will be another first for Murphy to drive at the Glen. However, it’s not his first time racing road courses. Murphy started his racing career in go-karts then moved up to sports cars within the American Le Mans Series.

“I’m really excited to get the chance to race some more at the Nationwide level,” said Murphy. “I haven’t been on a road course in a few years, since I’ve been totally focused on circle track. And I know it will be a challenge to learn the Glen, I’ve never been there. But it won’t be all new to me either, as I think my past road racing experience is going to help a lot. I feel good about this race and really have the same goal as I did at Iowa. Stay in one piece and have a solid finish.”
