What happened between you and Kyle Busch on the final lap?

“We were racing hard. He (Kyle Busch) was on the inside and I was on the outside. We were racing and 88 (Brad
Keselowski) took the high line and got around both of us. I’m frustrated for the Dollar General guys because we should
have had a win. I didn’t see him (Brad Keselowski) coming. Kyle (Busch) was crying like a little girl after the race and he
came up and was whining because I was racing him so hard. I thought this was racing – I thought this was what we were
supposed to do. We raced fine the whole race – I caught him and he let me go, he caught me and I let him go. Then at the
end of the race we were racing for the win and he’s crying about it. I don’t know what he wants.”

What is your response to Kyle Busch saying what you did in the closing laps was ‘stupid’?

“I am so sorry – I forgot it was the ‘Kyle Busch show’. I thought we were racing for a win. I am really sorry for the Dollar
General guys. We had a great car. We were too loose on the start of the run – he (Kyle Busch) was better. I thought it was
my job to hold him off – apparently not. He came over to the car after we came in and knocked our fender in, which was
unnecessary and then started crying like a little baby.

I asked if he would just give me a minute to get out and we could
talk about it like men. If he wanted to fight – that’s fine with me. As soon as I got out he ran off. It’s a shame that it went
down like that. We were racing hard and I thought it was a good race. Congratulations to the 88 (Brad Keselowski), he
snuck around both of us and I didn’t see him coming. I let my guys down – we should have been able to win this race.
Last I checked it wasn’t the’ Kyle Busch show’ – it was a Nationwide race and I was supposed to race him for the win.”

Did you expect Brad Keselowski to make the pass on the final lap?

“I didn’t know he was coming – I didn’t know he was that close. We went down into turn three coming to the white and
18 (Kyle Busch) got me loose and I chased it all the way up the race track. By that time the 88 (Brad Keselowski) caught
us. Once he got to my outside – I was already too loose anyway by myself and then with him on the outside I couldn’t
hold him off.”

How was your race car today?

“We had a good car. We were better on the long run, on the short run we were too loose, the 18 (Kyle Busch) was better.
We had a good race all day back and forth throughout the runs and then there at the end we were just racing hard for the
win and the 88 (Brad Keselowski) snuck around both of us on the outside.

We were really loose there at the end and at that
point my focus was trying to hold off the 18 for the win and got really loose down in turn three, getting into turn three. I’m
not sure how close the 18 was to me, if it was aero-loose or just got out from under me and I chased up the track and by that
time the 88 caught us. I thought I could race him back down to turn three but I was just way too loose at the bottom.
Whoever had the outside groove had the advantage pretty much most of the day. That’s why all the leaders took the
outside lane on the restarts, I feel like.”

Did you feel like you were racing each other clean all the way up to the incident at the end of the race?

“We had good racing all day. I don’t know why he (Kyle Busch) was so upset after the race. I thought it was good, hard
racing. I didn’t realize it was my job to let him go and win the race. At that point coming to the white flag, whether the 88
(Brad Keselowski) was coming or not was irrelevant – my job is to try to win the race. It’s a last lap and at the point the
greatest threat was the 18 (Kyle Busch). I was side-drafting him just like he was side-drafting me all day, that’s what we
do, that’s what we race for. My job is to win the race and that’s what I was trying to do. I didn’t hit him and I didn’t move
him. I didn’t do anything dirty, we raced down the front stretch. The 88 got into my outside and him and I raced down the
back stretch. I didn’t think nothing of it until he hit me in the pits.”

Can you move on from this incident?

“I race everybody the way they race me. The Richmond incident that he (Kyle Busch) was talking about was he got to me
and the first turn he got to me, he raced me up the race track and I moved him back up the race track the next turn. After
that, we’ve been fine. I don’t know what else to do. I race people the way they race me. We were racing for the win.
Kyle, if you’re going to be upset about that, I mean I’m sorry.

That’s my job is to try to win the race. If anyone else
disagrees, if anyone else thinks I should have just rolled out of it and let Kyle (Bush) win, then please raise your hand. I
don’t know what else I’m supposed to do. I’m fine, the only thing I’m mad about was the way he handled it after the race.
I’m sure we can get past that. I want to have a good race tomorrow. But there again, I’m always going to race everybody
the way they race me.”

What was your view at the end of the race?

“(Brian Vickers) hung on my right rear quarter panel all the way down the front straightaway and gave the win to the 88
(Brad Keselowski) car. He slowed us down so much – he had no idea the 88 (Brad Keselowski) car was coming and the 88
(Brad Keselowski) just drove right by both of us on the outside because Brian Vickers was trying to slow both of us down.
It was just stupid. If he would have ran his own line up at the top of the track and I would have won my own line down at
the bottom of the track it could have been a battle between us two.

Unfortunately, you race with idiots and I guess you’ll have that sometimes, but the NOS Energy Drink Camry was good today, just not good enough. I felt like we had a good handling race car on the long runs but unfortunately there we didn’t have long runs at the end of the race. I’m sure I’m complaining and I’m whining and I’m a cry baby but that’s uncalled for. It’s just stupid. I would have ran my own line instead of just giving it to the third place car in order to battle it out between the top-two, who deserved the win and deserved to battle the race out at the end. He didn’t deserve to win.”

Can you talk about your race today?

“It was a fine run. The car was fast, just not fast enough. Unfortunately there we had to race with the 32 (Brian Vickers)
too much today and there at the end of the race when we did our final pit stop on pit road we had a great pit stop and got off
and got out and we were leading. If the race would have went green, I think we would have had it but unfortunately there
at the end of the race we were racing too hard with the 32 and I don’t think he knew the 88 (Brad Keselowski) was coming
and blew by both of us.”

Did you feel like you were racing each other clean all the way up to the incident at the end of the race?

“During the race it was fine. We were having a good battle up front, sometimes my car would be good on a few laps and
his (Brian Vickers) car would be good on a few laps and then he’d kind of check out there on a long run. There at the end
he bobbled in three, I got under him coming off of four and got all the way down to the grass trying to get away from him
and he just hung on my right rear quarter panel side-drafting me and wasn’t paying attention to the mirror that the 88 (Brad
Keselowski) was coming. I knew the 88 was coming and man, I was stuck – I had nowhere to go. If I would have moved
up I would have been into him, if I would have gone lower I would have been in the dirt so I had nothing to do. It was just
unfortunate there that the side-draft played that big of role and lost both the winning cars a chance to win the race.”

Can you move on from this incident?

“I don’t know. Ever since Richmond, I’ve had a problem with him (Brian Vickers) racing with him on the race track. This
is just another escalation of that. He’ll be upfront tomorrow and I’ll be in the back so we won’t have anything tomorrow.”

What happened to your car at the end of the race?

“Our car was a little loose at the beginning of the race. Jerry Baxter (crew chief) and the crew were able to make it better
and better all race. I blew a right-front tire right at the end of the race and hit the wall. It wasn’t the day we wanted.”

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 CARFAX Toyota Camry, CJM Racing

What happened that took you out of the race?

“We broke something on the shifter. It’s the story of my life – I break more stuff than anyone else, it’s unbelievable.”
