AT BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY, AUGUST 21, 2009, PAGE 1.
· Brendan Gaughan led 10 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in tonight’s Food City 250. Gaughan claimed the award for the second time this season. He led at least one lap in BOTH Bristol races this season.
· Gaughan posted a 19th-place finish in tonight’s race at Bristol.
· Mike Bliss leads Kenny Wallace by three races (6-3) in the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.
“Our strategy was to stop around lap 40 and try to play the cautions. Rusty [Wallace] kind of asked us to start gambling a little bit more and take some chances. I loved the call. I guess we ended up six laps short. That caution came out and it ran out and couldn’t get fuel back into it. These new fuel pressure systems with this new hard line deal. ECR makes great engines but when they don’t have any fuel they can’t go anywhere.
I’m a little upset, though. I was really hoping that the push truck would get there faster than they did. I could have not lost two laps doing it but Bryan [Berry, crew chief] made a great call. We put a show on for 5 hour and at least we got a WIX award.”
