MONROE, N.C. (Thursday, August 27, 2009) - It’s rare that NASCAR fans have an opportunity to help out a driver and team in a big way. But for this weekend’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada, thousands of fans will be doing just that for Kenny Wallace and his Jay Robinson Racing team.

Fans from all across the country have raised over $100,000 to sponsor Wallace’s No. 28 Chevy this weekend. Each fan participating in the sponsorship will also have his or her name on the car, making it truly the “fan’s car”.

It’s a gesture Wallace said he won’t ever forget.

“I am completely humbled by this. There’s nothing that could make me feel better. It’s a lifelong dream to have fans respond in this way. To have them step up and create a fan car on their own, I am just beside myself.”

It’s a big race for Wallace and Jay Robinson Racing, too. This Sunday’s race at Montreal marks the second and final road course race for the Nationwide Series. With Wallace knocking on the door of a top-10 berth in the drivers point standings, a strong run could go a long way for the driver.

“It’ll be business as usual when we get up there to Montreal,” Wallace said. “This race is a tribute to the fans, and we owe the fans a good run this weekend.”

For road course races, another element is thrown into the mix: weather. The Nationwide Series cars are all outfitted with windshield wipers and defrosters, and NASCAR will bring rain tires in case of rain.

Wallace and Jay Robinson Racing were a part of history in last year’s race at Montreal, as it was the first regular season, points-paying race in NASCAR history which was run in the rain. Regardless of whether it rains or not, this weekend’s race in Montreal will be an exciting one on many levels.

Wallace and his Jay Robinson Racing team will take to the track for Sunday’s NAPA Auto Parts 200 at 2 p.m., with live coverage on ESPN2.
