RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE CONTENDER QUOTES FOR THE
DEGREE V12 300
NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE
AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2009,
BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 5-HOUR ENERGY ES CHEVROLET: WHAT HAPPENED? “It was basically my own fault. Bryan Berry my crew chief just told me that our 5-Hour Energy Chevy was probably the third or fourth quickest car on the track. And it felt like it, too. It was going forward. I was up on the high groove and I wanted to get by Paul Menard there because he was holding me up and I didn’t want to go to the bottom so I was waiting to set some things up and I went in too high.I got up over that gray line there and put it in the fence harder than a decal scraper, as we like to say, and it did some damage and I could feel that we were probably rubbing, just hoping for somebody else to be the caution. Now I’ve got to rely on my boys to put whole new right front corner on it and try to get it back out there for points. We’ve got Raybestos Rookie points, we’ve got top-five in points that we’re gunning for, we’ve got a lot of points that we need to gain.”
MICHAEL ANNETT IN THE No. 15 PILOT TRAVEL CENTERS TOYOTA WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TONIGHT’S RACE AT ATLANTA.
NOTES:
- Annett scored a 14th-place finish and claimed Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for third time in 2009.
ANNETT: “For everything that you hear about this place it’s good to bring it home in one piece. We were the top finishing Raybestos Rookie again so that’s good. We keep going forward. I just can’t thank these guys enough for how much hard work they put in at the shop and come race weekend we just keep getting better. All summer we’ve just kept getting better and better and that’s what we need to do.”COMMENT ON THE CHANGING TRACK CONDITIONS.
“I think the biggest thing was that nobody really knew what it was going to do when it got dark because we’d never raced here at night.”
JUSTIN ALLGAIER, No. 12 VERIZON WIRELESS DODGE:“We thought that probably more people were going to have to come in and pit there at the end so we saved fuel for about the last 20 laps. It probably hurt us a little bit but you know in all reality it didn’t hurt us horribly and we got a spot right there at the end coming to the checkered. A little frustrating for the Verizon Wireless Dodge. We thought we had a better car than that. We just didn’t have a whole lot of luck. We tried to stay out of all the wrecks and seemed to be that there were some guys that, you know, had the same handling cars and got themselves in trouble early. We just conserved and tried to make the best of what we had.”
HOW PHYSICAL WAS THIS RACE?
“It’s not that physical, really, to be honest with you. I mean it definitely was hot. But you know that’s where we make our money doing what we do. I think the biggest thing is when you’re not running good it just makes the day that much longer. Definitely not the night we wanted, I can promise you that.”
