DALLAS, TX, Sept. 8, 2009 – To help commemorate September as National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Depend, a Kimberly-Clark global brand, Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (NYSE: FDO) and ZERO – The Project to End Prostate Cancer, have teamed up to encourage NASCAR fans across the country to be proactive about their prostate health. In support of the partnership, the No. 27 Baker Curb Racing NASCAR Nationwide Series entry will adorn a special Depend brand and Family Dollar-themed paint scheme complete with a blue ribbon as well as the words “Help End Prostate Cancer” across the hood for the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Speedway on Sept. 11, 2009.
Additionally, the Depend brand, which continues to be a valued resource for men recovering from prostate health issues, and Family Dollar have committed a $20,000 donation to ZERO to benefit the organization’s efforts to end prostate cancer through education and research.
According to ZERO, prostate cancer will affect one in six men in their lifetime and more than 192,000 American men this year – statistics which fueled K-C’s launch of “The Depend Campaign to End Prostate Cancer.” The four-month campaign, unveiled by K-C’s Depend brand this June, features sports legends like Ken Griffey, Sr., Rod Woodson and Len Dawson as program ambassadors, encouraging men everywhere to visit their doctor and learn more about prostate health.
“Kimberly-Clark is proud to align with a great partner like Family Dollar for this unique element of ‘The Depend Campaign to End Prostate Cancer’,” said Mark Cammarota, Brand Director for Depend. “We hope every time NASCAR fans see the blue ribbon across the hood of the No.27 Ford Fusion this weekend, they’re reminded just how important it is to be proactive about prostate health.”
“We’re thrilled to work with one of our key strategic partners in K-C to help raise awareness of prostate cancer,” said Don Smith, Vice President of Marketing for Family Dollar. “By hosting awareness events at Family Dollar, we again support our mission of being a compelling place to shop for our customer.”
During the week leading up to the race, a replica of the No.27 Depend Help End Prostate Cancer Ford Fusion driven by Jason Keller will visit four Family Dollar stores in Richmond, Va., on Wednesday, Sept. 9 and Thursday, Sept. 10. Additionally, Keller will make an appearance at the 6508 Hull Street Rd. location from 3-6 p.m. ET Sept. 10 to participate in a special check presentation, sign autographs, meet with fans and encourage men to learn more about their prostate health.
Race fans who attend any of the No. 27 Ford Fusion events in Richmond, Va., will receive complementary Jason Keller autograph cards which include coupons for select Kimberly-Clark brands including Depend, Scott and Huggies redeemable at Family Dollar stores.
