Steve Wallace Rolls To Top-10 In Richmond
Press Release“RWR Driver Keeps Pace with Penske’s Allgaier in Race for Final Top-Five Spot”
RICHMOND, VA (September 11, 2009)– Rusty Wallace Racing’s Steve Wallace (No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet) continued to put his short track prowess on display this evening, overcoming a 29th-place qualifying effort to score a top-ten finish in tonight’s Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway.Wallace’s ninth-place effort this evening marked his third straight finish of 11th or better at the Virginia short track. In charging from the 29th starting position, he made 39 green flag passes during the event, the second-most of any driver in the race.
Wallace’s top-ten run in Richmond helped to keep very much alive his hopes for a top-five spot in the final driver standings. After finishing a mere one position behind fifth-ranked Justin Allgaier in tonight’s event, Wallace leaves the Commonwealth of Virginia ranked sixth overall in the standings and a scant 20 points behind Allgaier for fifth. Wallace maintains a semi-comfortable 141-point margin over seventh-place, Jason Keller and a 175-point edge over his eighth-place teammate, Brendan Gaughan.
Said Wallace, “Tonight was a solid run for our team overall. We had a really strong 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet in tonight’s race; it was probably a top-five car from the middle to the end of a run, but it just took us a little too long to get going on new tires. With that said though, we’ll definitely take it. If nothing else, it was pretty cool for our 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet to get around the Red Bull car there on the last lap. I hope that this race can be a little bit of a momentum changer for our team and help get us back up in the top-five in points.”
