Team Race Preview

NASCAR Nationwide Series Race 29 of 35 – Kansas Speedway

ON A MISSION: Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) co-owner Kevin Harvick will return to the wheel of the No. 33 KHI Jimmy John’s Chevrolet this weekend for the Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway. Harvick is on a mission to finish what he left on the table last year in the Nationwide Series race at the 1.5-mile track. After winning the pole in 2008 and leading 90 laps, a dead battery halfway through the race forced Harvick to make a green-flag pit stop and dropped the team to a 13th-place finish.

When Harvick takes the green flag Saturday, he will make his seventh career Nationwide Series start at the track. In six previous starts, Harvick has recorded one win, one pole, three top-five and three top-10 finishes.

DOUBLE DUTY: In addition to piloting the No. 33 KHI Jimmy John’s Chevrolet this weekend, Harvick will be behind the wheel of the No. 29 Reese’s Chevrolet from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stables for the Cup Series Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway.

BEFORE THE RACE: QUOTES WITH DRIVER KEVIN HARVICK:

On racing mile-and-a-half tracks: “I think for us as a team at KHI, the mile-and-a-half tracks like Texas (Motor Speedway) and Atlanta (Motor Speedway) have been really good for us so far this year. With Tony (Stewart) at Texas, we came up one position short, but had a great car. At Atlanta we were able to get our second win of the season and my first Nationwide Series win at that track. I’m looking forward to getting back in the Jimmy John’s Chevrolet this weekend at Kansas and hopefully we can get them another win.”

What are your expectations heading into this weekend’s race at Kansas Speedway? “Every weekend I go to the race track expecting to run up front and contend for a win. In the past few races, we’ve had really good, fast cars and the pit crew has stepped it up on the stops to put us in the places we need to be. This week we are taking the same car we had at Atlanta, so that adds a little bit of confidence from the time the team unloads.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: This weekend the No. 33 Jimmy John’s team will unload chassis No. 037 for Harvick at Kansas Speedway. This chassis was last on track at Atlanta Motor Speedway where Harvick recorded his first career Nationwide Series win at the track and his second career win in a KHI-owned Chevrolet. Prior to Atlanta, this chassis had one other start this season at Chicagoland Speedway where Harvick started the race 10th and finished fifth in the Windy City.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Prior to Kansas Speedway, the NASCAR Nationwide Series was in action at Dover (Del.) International Speedway where Ryan Newman returned to the driver seat of the No. 33 Copart Chevrolet. Newman started the race from the sixth position and fought a tight-handling car early in the race, making adjustments and maintaining his position in the top 10. Unfortunately, contact with the No. 16 car on lap 144 sent Newman spinning into the wall. The damage sustained in the incident proved to be too severe to return to the race, relegating the team to a 30th-place finish.
