Michael Annett Reaches Top-10 in Point Standings with Strong Run at Memphis
Press ReleaseTravel Centers team made a great performance in this past weekend’s
Kroger on Track for the Cure 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park, bringing the
rookie driver into the top-10 in the Nationwide Series point race.
Heading into the Kroger on Track for the Cure 250 just seven points away
from the top-10 in points, the team was sure they’d meet their goal with
a strong run at Memphis.
out. They’re a hard working group of guys and always give 110 percent
each and every week. They’ve done an awesome job getting us where we are
at this point in the season,” said Annett, “We’ve been pushing to
get into the top-10 in points, and we’ve now achieved that goal with
Memphis. It feels really good to be able to say that. We’re very excited
about this small victory, but are focused on working hard to finish these
last three races strong and continue to gain valuable points.”
Starting the 250 lap race in 34th, Annett had gained on the field and was
into the top-10 on lap 193. He continued to drive his way to the front,
moving into the top-five on lap 214 and leading the race from lap 230 to
238 for nine laps. Annett won his first WIX Filters Lap Leader award at
Memphis for leading the race for those nine laps. The No. 15 Pilot Travel
Centers Toyota Camry drove through the checkered flag to finish 16th in
the Kroger on Track for the Cure 250.
“I’ve led a few laps this season, but leading for nine against a
strong field of cars was amazing. We were really fast during long green
flag runs, but the caution flags thrown with less than 25 laps to go
didn’t help us out. I knew we had our work cut out for us when the race
resumed with 12 laps to go. At that point we were a sitting duck as the
front runners came in for tires and we were out of tires and had to work
with what we had. We might not have the finish that we deserved, but we
put on a really good performance at Memphis and showed what this No. 15
Pilot Travel Centers team is made of,” said Annett.
With only three races left this season for the Nationwide Series, next up
is the O’Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway. Watch and listen live
to the O’Reilly Challenge on November 7 at 12 p.m. on ESPN 2 and PRN
Radio.
