Jason Hogan Ends Frustrating Gulf Coast Weekend with Top Five
Press Release
Advertisment

Cleveland, GA 3/31/09- While much of the Southeast was rain soaked all weekend the RC Cola/MoonPie ASA Southeast series was able to kick off their sophomore season. The series kicked off the ’09 season with a Gulf Coast weekend double beginning Saturday night at Mobile International Speedway in Alabama then turned around the very next day and traveled some sixty miles east to Pensacola, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway for a Sunday afternoon matinee.

For Jason Hogan the first race at Mobile International wasn’t exactly the way he had hoped to start a run towards a championship. A third place qualifying effort is where the Georgia driver took the green flag but it sure wasn’t where he finished. A double file restart with just a handful of laps remaining lead to a multi car wreck taking out a majority of the top ten racers including the #92 of Hogan. The damage resulted in a fourteenth place finish, a finish that wasn’t exactly up to par if you ask Jason.

“Double file restarts are nothing new to me but this series just doesn’t have the drivers with enough experience for double file restarts. I know a lot of people say it’s up to us to make them work but when it takes three or four cautions and ten wrecked racecars later to get the checkered flag I’d say there’s a problem no matter whose fault it is,” stated Hogan after race one of the weekend doubleheader.

From there it was off to Five Flags Speedway where Hogan qualified his Hogan Lumber Chevy Monte Carlo tenth before taking the green flag. Early on Hogan raced hard to stay in the top five in an effort to stay away from the crashing and carnage he experienced the night before. While it may have saved his racecar, the same couldn’t be said for his tires on the gritty Five Flags Speedway surface. A solid fifth place notched his third top five finish of the season and his first within the ASA Southeast series.

“I don’t race Five Flags too much so to be able to come out of here with a fifth place finish and my car in one piece is a pretty good feeling especially if you go look at my Mobile car. This is a real good series with the television package and everything and we are planning on running for the championship with these guys (ASA SAT) but if we have too many more weekends like this both myself and a lot of other guys will run out of funding pretty quick,” added Hogan
