Sarah Fisher the racer would love to be in St. Petersburg, Fla., for this Sunday’s 2009 IndyCar Series season debut.

Sarah Fisher the owner knows that it’s best if she waits until the April 26 race at Kansas Speedway to start her season.

“It’s a financial thing,” said the 28-year-old Fisher. who made a stop in Topeka on Thursday. “Our focus this year is to hopefully get all the superspeedways in. Last year we did three events and we’d like to be able to double that, as a growing year. We’re working towards that and will hopefully get that done.

“We’d like to do the whole season, it’s just not feasible. Knowing what our budgets are and what we’re committed to and how much it really costs, we’re not going to extend ourselves beyond what we can really do because we can’t pay for it.”

Fisher, who has 70 IndyCar Series starts, the most among female drivers, hopes to someday return to fulltime duty in the series — she was 17th in 2007 — but she is satisfied with the progress her No. 67 Dollar General Stores team has made as it enters 2009.
