North Highlands, Calif. – Jonathon Gomez of Twin Falls, ID made a strong comeback to come home 12th and retain his rookie points lead in the NASCAR Camping World Series West “NAPA / Toyota 150” at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.

The 26 year-old Drive for Diversity participant from Twin Falls, ID leaned on his recent All American Speedway Late Model experience to qualify eighth on the grid.

Racing in the early laps on the tight one-third mile saw Gomez fight hard with rookie contender Blake Koch, as well as a strong battle with Jim Warn.

As Gomez closed on the lead pack and the top-five, he had his race to the front derailed by a flat tire on lap 39. Gomez’ tire went flat entering turn one and he immediately went off the turn two pit ramp.

The crew worked quickly and they were able to get Gomez back out just three laps down.

Gomez began running some of his fastest laps of the race and moving forward, before an incident with Jack Sellers while battling him for position on lap 81.

The spin cost Gomez another lap, but he dug deep and made up ground to come home 12th in the final rundown.

Gomez ran hard with sixth place finisher Mike David all the way to the finish, and had a top-five car all evening long.

Gomez will now look for his first career top-five of the season heading into Phoenix International Raceway on April 16th.
