May 4, 2009 – - While rain storms and race cars do not mix, Mother Nature flexed her muscle this past weekend as track officials and the Champion Racing Association Series (CRA) were forced to cancel all track activities at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville.

The CRA race with NASCAR star Kyle Busch was one of the biggest casualties of the soggy weekend. Busch was set to fly to Nashville on Sunday morning to shoot for an unprecedented four victories in four consecutive days. The ambitious driver not only swept through the NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway with ease, he also thrilled the local Virginia fans at Southside Speedway on Thursday night by grabbing a win in the 175-lap Late Models.

With the Nashville track personnel, media and fans all being set up to witness Busch aim for a personal record in racing, the dark clouds overtook any silver lining with the weekend deemed a total washout.

“We really hate it for the fans and this facility that we couldn’t race this past weekend, but those kinds of things are not in our control. It’s a real shame though because it had all the makings of a great spectacle for the fans and this track. We’re looking for a date to reschedule so hopefully it will all work out in the end,” said track promoter Danny Denson.

The Fairgrounds Speedway will resume weekly short track racing at its best this coming weekend, May 9th as the local rivalries continue to go door-to-door on the .596 mile asphalt oval in nine separate divisions.

As a salute to Mother’s Day the Fairgrounds Speedway will be giving away a half-carat diamond ring this Saturday night to one lucky ticket holder.
