Chris Wimmer Heads Back to Short Tracks After Win
Press ReleaseMay 22, 2009, Wausau, WI – Fresh off his first ever ASA Midwest Tour win last weekend at the 7/8 mile track in Iowa, Chris Wimmer prepares to head back to the short tracks. Wimmer and the rest of the ASAMT race at the 3/8 mile oval in Elko, MN Saturday. “It’s always a change when you go from the shorter tracks to a bigger track like Iowa,” says Wimmer, “But I’m looking forward to Elko. It’s a really nice track and I know they get a good mix of tour guys and local guys, so it should be a good show.”
Wimmer, who once set a track record at Elko Speedway in the old ASA Series, finished 12th there in the ASAMT opener last season. “Last year Elko was our first race of the season,” says Wimmer, “It was actually my first time on the track in my car after making a bunch of changes in the offseason, so I’m excited to see what we can do this year.”
After last weekend’s big win at Iowa Speedway, there’s no doubt there’s been a little more buzz
around the shop this week and the Wimmer Racing team is excited to get back to the track.
“Winning a big race definitely helps give you and your team a boost,” says Wimmer, “I know we’re all excited to get back out there and see what we can do this weekend. To win one race on this tour is a hard thing to do and it’s exciting to think we’re trying for number two.”
Qualifying gets underway at 4pm Saturday with an autograph session at 5:30pm and racing set to start at 7pm. For fans that can’t make the trip to Minnesota, you can listen live to the event on the internet. Simply go to www.asamidwesttour.com/node/915 and you will see the link.
