Drew Brannon Set for Return to Florida
Press ReleaseOn Saturday, July 11th, the ASA Late Models South Division will return to the Charlotte County Motorsports Park in Punta Gorda, FL. It will be the second event of 2009 for the touring series at the 3/8-mile bullring on Florida’s gulf coast.
Back in March, the sixteen-year old from Miami lead over three-quarters of the laps and won the “Real Diehl 100” in his first race in SS Green Light Racings potent late model fielded by three-time ASA National Series Champion Butch Miller.
The return home to Florida and racing at Charlotte County will be a warm homecoming to the Miami native following a not-so kind weekend in the ASA Challenge event at Rockingham, NC. “I feel really bad about last week, we had a fast car and probably never should have been in that position. We have a chance this week to repeat what we did back in March and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Butch Miller and the SS Green Light team have already rebuilt Brannon’s No. 08 Port City Chassis following the wreck at “The Rock” and will be ready for the trip south. “We had all the parts we needed right in the shop and luckily all the damage was to the body, around the radiator mounts and not the frame itself. The guys in the SS Green Light shop have done a great job and we’re planning to be at the test on Friday to shake the car down for Saturday’s race.”
Brannon and the ASI Limited, Spectrum Metal Finishing, Akzo Nobel No. 08 team lead the ASA Late Model South Division standings by 140 points over Dustin Dunn with only a handful of races remaining on the 2009 schedule.
Drew considers Charlotte County Motorsports Park his home track; In addition to his victory this spring, he has several wins in the Fastruck series at the three-eighths mile speedway and has competed at the track more than a dozen times over the last couple years. “I feel confident about returning home to Florida, we have a lot of family and friends coming this weekend and they always get at good crowd at Charlotte County.”
Practice for the ASA Late Model “The Best Show in Town 100″ is Saturday at 10:30am, qualifying begins at 4:00 and the 100-lap race will start at 9:15pm eastern. There are sixteen cars pre-entered for the event.
