David Odell Runs Strong In Music City; Looks Forward To Concord Motorsports Park
Press ReleaseDavid Odell made his first start of the 2009 season in the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville on August 2nd. Odell, who is a regular in the ASA Late Model Series South Division, made the trek from his native Georgia to take on the legendary short track in the Volunteer State. The effort turned into a solid finish for the Lawrenceville, Georgia driver as he came away from the Music City with a sixth place finish, passing more cars than anyone on the high banked short track.
Odell qualified his Port City South/Allen’s Automotive/JC Concrete Chevrolet in the seventeenth position. By the halfway mark of the race, Odell had worked his way into the tenth spot. However, the twenty three year old Georgia driver would continue to advance through the field after making adjustments to his car during the competition caution.
During the final 100 lap run, Odell was able to avoid a handful of crashes that happened in his vicinity to bring his Chevrolet home in the sixth position at the checkered flag. Odell’s car was not as strong as he would have like for it to have been, but he was able to make the best of his day in Nashville. “We struggled tremendously in practice today,” said Odell after the race. “We changed everything on the front end trying to get the car to turn.”
“We did not qualify well at all, but we were able to miss the wrecks and come away with a sixth place finish, so it was a pretty good day for us.” Odell moved up eleven spots from his starting position, more than any other driver in The Nashville 200 at the Fairgrounds Speedway.
Odell will return to action with the ASA Late Model Series South Division at Concord Motorsports Park on Saturday August 29th. Odell enters the race at Concord Motorsports Park eighth in the South Division standings. Odell looks to have a reversal of fortune from his race at Concord last year, where he finished last after getting caught up in a first lap crash that was not of his doing.
The ASA Late Model Series is its own entity and not affiliated in any way with ASA Racing, American Speed Association or the ASA Member Track Program. The ASA Late Model Series is owned and operated by Ron and Sandy Varney as it has been for the past six years and will be for years to come.
