Max Gresham Returns To Orange County For Rescheduled ASA Southeast Tour Event
Press Release“I’m looking for our car to be just as good as the last time we went to Orange County,” said Gresham (left) of Saturday’s rescheduled ASA 100-lapper at the track. “I’m thinking our Gresham Motorsports car is going to be just as fast or faster than when we were there earlier this year. If that’s the case, I think we’ll have a great shot at winning Saturday’s race. We really need a win right now.”
Gresham timed in second the for the July 11 event on the superfast Orange County track.
“I didn’t think that place would be that fast,” said Gresham. “The fastest laps in qualifying were in the 13.90-second range. That place is bad fast. It’s got a lot of banking so you carry your speed all the way around the track. Our times were great in practice and qualifying. We were really fast. It’s a fun place to drive. ”
Gresham, who has never officially raced at the track, thinks he’ll have a better chance at winning this weekend thanks to the experience he gained in practice at the rained out event.
“I feel like I know the place a lot better now even though we didn’t get to race,” said Gresham. “We got a lot of good information in practice and that obviously translated in fast times and qualifying. We know what we need to do to put down a fast lap. Now we’ll be looking forward to do it for 100 laps this Saturday night.”
Before Gresham takes the green flag, there is the matter of returning to school. The 16-year-old driver begins his Junior year of high school at Woodward Academy in College Park, GA this week after a summer of racing, working at the Gresham Motorsports shop and relaxing.
“I’m kind of sorry that summer is over, but I’m looking forward to school starting to see some friends I haven’t seen all summer and to meet my new teachers,” said Gresham. “I won’t be able to test as much because of my school schedule, which takes a bite out of preparation for some races. It can be hard balancing everything at times, but when it comes right down to it, school is the most important. I have to get the education that can serve me the rest of my life.”
Gresham will take the green flag at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC this Saturday, August 22 when practice begins at 2 p.m. Qualifying is set for 5:30 p.m. with the 100-lap ASA headline event at 8:15 p.m. Eastern Time.
