Drew Brannon Tries to Narrow Points Gap at Gateway
Press ReleaseMooresville, NC – Wednesday, September 9th, 2009 – As the ASA Late Models Challenge Series rolls into the final third of the season, Drew Brannon has only three races to close the 83 point gap on current points leader Brian Campbell.
Brannon and the SS Green Light Racing’s No. 08 did their best at cutting the margin by winning two weeks ago at the mile and one-third Nashville Superspeedway and will try to pick up more points at the Gateway International Raceway on Saturday.
Brannon has won two of the three speedway races so far this year, having also won the season opener at Milwaukee. “The ASI Limited Chevy has been pretty good on the big tracks this year.” Said Brannon. “I’m excited to get to Gateway because we ran so good at Nashville and we had a really fast car at Rockingham, but we had a problem with the driveshaft.”
Brannon ran extremely well driving his family’s entry at the mile-and a quarter speedway last year before a problem slowed the Miami teenager down and dropped him to eleventh place. “We had a great handling car last year, but the motor laid down and cost us a top finish. I’m ready to go because I know what we need to get back to the front this weekend and try to gain some more points.”
Gateway has a unique egg-shaped layout with two distinct corners at the different ends of the track. “I really like the track. You need to have a compromise in the set-up and drive the car a little different at each end of the track.” explained Brannon. “We’ll be taking the same Port City chassis we ran at Nashville and I know that Butch, Troy and the guys will have a great set-up in the ASI Limited Chevy for us for Gateway.”
The NCWTS is also competing at Gateway International Raceway on Saturday. SS Green Light Racing is pleased to welcome Jason Young back in the Truck Series at the mile and one-quarter speedway. The twenty-sixteen year-old from Houston will be making his third start of season in the No. 07 Chevy Silverado.
