AT DOVER INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY,
SEPTEMBER 25, 2009,
Matt DiBenedetto clinched the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader Award prior to today’s race at Dover. DiBenedetto has a two-race lead his competition (seven drivers have captured the award once). He won the pole for this afternoon’s race, his third in seven NASCAR Camping World East Series starts this season.

“I didn’t know we won the WIX award. That’s pretty cool to have. We’ve only run a limited schedule this season. Joe Gibbs Racing, all these guys, they give me some awesome equipment and from what I’ve run in the past, it’s been a Mom and Pop team. They gave me an opportunity and to be able to be in this equipment it’s an honor to be able to drive for them.”
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR?
“We’re still playing it by ear a little bit but the plan is probably to run a handful of Nationwide races as well as still coming back and visiting the East series. I’d say probably about six Nationwide and we’re not really sure about the East side but I’ll definitely be back for some more races. So that’s the plan, I’ll be running the 20 Nationwide car next year. I’m excited about all the opportunities they are giving me. I showed up at Joe Gibbs Racing with helmet and firesuit and that was about all they got and they’re still giving me this kind of opportunity so they really have a lot of faith in me and obviously I have a lot of faith in my guys. They’re awesome.”
IT MUST BE SPECIAL TO RUN WELL AT DOVER OR NEW HAMPSHIRE IN FRONT OF ALL THE CUP DRIVERS AND OWNERS.
“Absolutely. First off we got the win at Tri-County early in the season. That was really special because that was my first one in the Camping World Series. Then we got it at New Hampshire and that was even greater because it’s kind of the home track for the series and in front of all the guys. And then coming here and getting the pole and having all the guys watching, man it’s great. This is the place I’ve been looking forward to the most all year, coming to the Monster Mile. It’s lived up to all my expectations and then some. It’s a neat place.”
