Mooresville, NC (Dec. 18, 2009)- Heading into his first full season of limited late model competition, 17-year-old Cory Joyce anticipated and expected success. Racing at Hickory Motor Speedway, a track dubbed “Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars” and known for producing tough competition, Joyce knew he would have a long road ahead of him on the way to fulfilling his goals.

“Going into this season, I didn’t really know what to expect but I definitely knew I wanted to run competitively and up front every weekend. After the first few races I found it was going to be a challenge, but it was a challenge I was willing to take on,” Joyce expressed.

The No. 33 team started off consistent, logging top five finishes in the first three races at Hickory. Bringing crew chief Chuck Meyers on board mid-season gave the driver and the entire team an extra boost. Joyce went on to finish the season with his first stock car victory under his belt, along with 12 top five finishes which helped him claim second in the overall point standings. He was also able to claim the Limited Late Model Rookie of the Year title.

“I’m definitely proud of what we were able to accomplish this year at Hickory. Trying to stay as consistent as possible helped me grow and taught me a different style of racing that I will use while competing for wins and championships in the future. Though we fell short of winning the championship title, I felt that we never gave up and accomplished a lot as a first year team, including my first win, which was very special for me,” Cory said.

A strong campaign would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the hard work and dedication from the people and sponsors who stood behind Cory Joyce Racing this season. The entire crew, including Chuck Meyers, John Lanham, Nate Homick, and help from Dexter Canipe, Sr., put a solid machine together for Cory every weekend and provided him with the necessary tools to compete at the front of the field. Support from sponsors, including Jake Racing, First South Bank, and Haus Builders, ensured the team made it to the track week in and week out in a competitive manner.

After the completion of his rookie year in stock cars, the 2010 season will bring a few changes for Cory Joyce. Teaming up with Win-Tron Racing, Joyce will participate in the USARacing Pro Cup Series, along with select late model races during off weekends. Cory will continue to expand his racing resume and hopes that next season will be just as successful as the last.
