Vision Racing, Byran Herta Autosport Score Top-Ten Finishes at Indianapolis
Press Release
Starting from the tenth position in the No. 21 People’s Liberation/Vision Racing Dallara/Firestone, Davison ran a clean race, took advantage of his competitors’ mistakes and was able to take the sixth spot.
The sixth place finish was Davison’s best of the season and fourth top-ten finish in five starts this season. In addition, it was Davison’s best finish at Indianapolis in his two attempts in Firestone Indy Lights competition.
Davison remains in the tenth position in the championship point standings driving for a new team co-owner as 18-year-old Lauren George was announced in the role on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Herrington, who started from the ninth position in the No. 28 Le Bleu/BHA Dallara/Firestone car, battled an ill-handling racecar to finish seventh in what was the first start for Herrington and the team on Indy’s 2.5-mile oval.
In the five races this season Herrington has finished in the top-five once and the top-ten four times. The recent North Carolina State University graduate is currently seventh in the championship point standings.
Firestone Indy Lights action resumes Sunday, May 31 at The Milwaukee Mile. Television coverage of the race begins at 4 p.m. (ET), Monday, June 1 on VERSUS.
Race Results and Quotes: (May 22, 2009)
James Davison – No. 21 People’s Liberation/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
Finishing Position: 6th
Qualifying Position: 10th
On race:
“It was a very difficult race for us from the start. Like many of the cars around us, we were struggling with a lot of understeer and washing out in traffic so I had to drive a very defensive race to keep people behind me and maintain the tow of the five cars ahead. I have to be happy with a top -six finish. It was a really strong team effort and you can feel the team is getting stronger each weekend. We had a good test in Milwaukee a few weeks ago so we’re looking forward to going there and having the no.21 People’s Liberation Vision car up front.”
Daniel Herrington – No. 28 Le Bleu/BHA Dallara/Honda/Firestone
Finishing Position: 7th
Qualifying Position: 9th
On race:
“We came home in seventh place which really isn’t too bad for the no.28 le Bleu car. Bryan (Herta) was just telling me how this is Indy. One day your car can be perfect and then the next day and we’re miles off. Unfortunately we got one of those other days where we were a little ways off of where we wanted. This is Indianapolis and this is a tough place but I can’t wait to be back here and try again.”
Bryan Herta-Owner Bryan Herta Autosport
On race:
“We really missed a little on set up and did give those guys what they need to go out there and fight. They did a phenomenal job of staying out of all the trouble and brought two cars home in decent finishing positions just missing out on two top-five positions. We gained some points and we’re now looking ahead to Milwaukee.”
Lauren George- Owner Vision Racing Firestone Indy Lights entry
On race:
“Sixth place is good. We definitely would have liked to move up more but we took advance of attrition. Both guys did a really good job. There was a lot of understeer and it wasn’t a perfect race car but they did a good job of keeping it in one piece. I know James (Davison) would have loved to get in on all the action and battle up front but we’ll take it and build on it for the next race in Milwaukee.”
