Notes:

The Iowa Speedway did not provide a change of luck for HVM Racing Sunday, with a Lap 1 crash ending the team’s day just as it was getting started. Cars were just getting up to speed after the green flag in the Iowa Corn Indy 250, when E.J. Viso’s No. 13 PDVSA HVM Racing Honda Dallara spun into the wall in Turn 4.

Viso said he lost the car going into Turn 3 – possibly from being hit by another car behind him – and he initially was able to save it, but it got loose again and he was not able to regain control. The rear of the No. 13 machine hit the wall, causing irreparable damage and forcing the team to ends its day. Viso was taken to the infield care center, where he was evaluated and released.

HVM came into the Iowa race weekend optimistic for better results. The team had a successful test at Richmond International Raceway on June 10 and believed the information gained would help with the remaining short ovals. Practice sessions on Saturday at Iowa Speedway were also encouraging, with Viso running solid lap times, finishing the afternoon session 11th fastest and reporting the car felt good.

The team now looks to next weekend’s race, when they return to Richmond for Saturday’s SunTrust Indy Challenge.

Comments from HVM Racing Team Principal and Owner Keith Wiggins after Sunday’s race at Iowa Speedway:

“It’s getting rather difficult to describe the disappointment. Each week it’s something different.

“We were hoping this race could be a turning point for us. We had a good test at Richmond, we saw some improvement in practice Saturday, so we were looking forward to making some progress here.”

Comments from PDVSA HVM Racing Team Driver E.J. Viso after Sunday’s race at Iowa Speedway:

“It’s very tough. This is the seventh DNF that we have. At this point, it’s getting out of our hands. We’ve had so many kinds of issues. This time I don’t know how to describe it.

“I was a couple car lengths behind (Tomas) Scheckter. I know he’s a good starter, so I just tried to hold on behind him for a couple laps. And everything was going good until I was going into Corner 3, when I felt something weird in the rear of the car. I believe that another car might have brushed the back of the car. And I lost control, it just went completely sideways and I had nothing to do”.
