Martinsville, Virginia, (March 29, 2009) -
TRG Motorsports’ David Gilliland finished the  NASCAR Sprint Cup Goody’s Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway 36th this afternoon.  The finish puts the team 36th in owner points heading to Texas.

Gilliland started the No. 71 Capital Window/TRG Motorsports Chevrolet Impala SS from 35th due to the cancellation of qualifying on Friday.  With only one practice in the books on the weekend before the race, the team spent a majority of the 500 laps working on the car’s handling.  A combination of handling and heat from the brakes plagued the team resulting in two front right flat tires and a tough day.

“Real tough day,” Gilliland said.  “It didn’t turn out the way that we wanted it to at all.  You will have days like this.  Everyone at TRG Motorsports worked real hard to get this car to the track this week.  We had some brake issues.  The heat from the brakes would melt the bead on the tire and we blew two right fronts today.  We need to go back and work on our brake cooling package.  We weren’t the only ones with that problem.  We will have to be better next time.”

Gilliland goes to Texas having to get in the race on speed once again.

“The finish put us out of the top 35 in owner points.  This means we will have our work cut out for us next weekend at Texas.  We will get her in the show and put the team back in the top 35 in owner points.”

TRG Motorsports team principal, Kevin Buckler, knows the team needs to keep its head down and maintain the hard work.

“We had a difficult race today,” Buckler said.  “The limited practice for a new team like ours really hurt us.  We finally were able to work on the race setup in practice, knowing that we were in the race regardless of what happened with the weather, but we sure didn’t get much practice.  The two sessions we missed would have put us way ahead of where we were, but every lap this team runs is another step up the ladder to our future in NASCAR.  With the two tires letting go, that really affected our points position today.  That forced us to come to pit road under the green flag.  Our Texas car is a proven piece and one that we finished 14th with at Vegas, so we are all really fired-up for next week.”

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway will be run next Sunday, April 5.
