TRG Motorsports and Gilliland Ready to get Back to Fast Ovals at Texas
Press Release
The fast mile-and-a-half Texas Motor Speedway will get the team back to the tracks where they have performed well so far this season. The TRG Motorsports crew, led by Slugger Labbe, will take the car that they ran at California, Las Vegas and Atlanta to the Lone Star state. This is the car that got the team in the top 35 in owner points and will have to be the ride that puts them back in this weekend. The team currently sits 36th in owner points, just three points out of 35th. Gilliland has three top 21 finishes at Texas.
“I am really looking forward to going to Texas, we have some family and friends there,” Gilliland said. “I feel good about how we are going to run. We are running Old Faithful, the car that we ran at all of the other intermediate tracks this year. We’ve had the chance to do some things to the car that we had on the list, but didn’t have time before. The car will be better than we have been. Kevin and Slugger have added some new guys to the team and we are going there looking to get back into the top 35 in points.”
Dav slug texas advTexas is one of Gilliland’s favorite tracks.
“Texas is one of the fastest tracks we go to and I like it. The banking has good grip. Goodyear brings a good tire to the track. Texas is similar to Vegas a high-speed mile-and-a-half track. The COT cars really seems to drive well at those type of tracks. It really suits my driving style.”
Gilliland is confident going into this weekend having to qualify on time again.
“We will be OK with qualifying. It is nothing new to us. We have been having to qualify on time all year. We will sacrifice a little race trim practice in the first session to make sure that we know where we need to be with the car when qualifying comes around. I am confident in this team. We have qualified three times on speed with this car, so Slugger and the guys know what it needs to put down a good lap. I feel good about the notes we have on this car. We didn’t have that with the other cars the last two weeks.”
TRG Motorsports team principal, Kevin Buckler, has the team motivated to for a good finish this weekend.
“We head to Texas with a six shooter to our heads, but we’ll get it done,” Buckler said. “David has a good record at Texas and can really run the mile-and-half tracks well. The guys have put in a great effort to get the car that we have had so much success with this season ready for Texas. I have a lot of confidence in our strong little team. We are working just as hard on the business side of things to keep this car on the track. We are working very hard to put a sponsor partner on this car.”
Gilliland is scheduled to SPEED Channel’s Track Side Live on Friday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway will be run Sunday, April 5 and televised live on FOX starting at 1:30 p.m. ET.
