Coca-Cola 600 Post-Second Practice Session Q&A With Dodge NSCS Driver Kasey Kahne
Press ReleaseDID YOU APPROACH PRACTICE DIFFERENTLY IN THE FIRST SESSION BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF RAIN LATER TODAY? “Not really. We just tried to get as many laps in as we could. Hopefully we can get the last session in because the conditions will be very similar to what we should have for tomorrow night’s race. We have a pretty good Budweiser Dodge Charger and we need to keep wrenching on some things to make it as good as we can.”
HOW IS YOUR CAR HEADING INTO THE LAST PRACTICE? “It’s really fast. The car is turning really good. Everything really seemed to feel good on all areas of the race track. The track is going to change a lot, so we’re going to have to keep
up with it.”
WHAT IS THE KEY FOR THE 9 CAR TOMORROW NIGHT? “We really have to keep it simple and just race the race track for the first three-quarters of the race. If you want to win (at Lowe’s), you have to be there at the end and hope that you’ve kept up with the track as it changes. The last 100 laps are always interesting here. Track position will certainly be a key late in the race. If you can work
your way up to the front and have clean pit stops (and not lose track too much track position), you’ll give yourself a shot at a win. I think the fact that we’ve won here (last year) and understand how the track will change over 600 miles is a bonus for our Budweiser Dodge.”
YOUR WORLD OF OUTLAW TEAM (KASEY KAHNE RACING) AND DRIVER JOEY SALDANA WON LAST NIGHT’S OUTLAW SHOWDOWN ON THE DIRT TRACK @ LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY. THAT HAD TO BE EXCITING? “It was really exciting. For Joey (Saldana) to win at a place with that many people in the seats…at a place like Charlotte…was really amazing. There were a lot of people watching, it was fun and really exciting. Maybe I can double-up and get a win in the Cup car as a driver tomorrow night.”
WERE YOU MORE NERVOUS AS A CAR OWNER LAST NIGHT OR AS A DRIVER IN THE BUDWEISER DODGE CHARGER? “I was really nervous watching Joey (Saldana). I never really get nervous driving my Cup car. But as an owner, I just had to sit and watch
and there was nothing that I could do. At least when I’m in the Budweiser Dodge I’m either the goat or the hero (laughs).”
