Max Papis & The GEICO Team Seek Success in New York
Press Release
As the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series arrives in Watkins Glen, NY, this weekend for the second and final road course race of the 2009 season, Papis is eager to hit the track in upstate New York’s Finger Lakes region. He is looking to improve upon his 12th place finish at the first road course race of the year in Sonoma, CA, on June 21st.
A couple of weeks ago, Papis and the GEICO Racing team tested at Road Atlanta and trailed only Michael Waltrip Racing’s Marcos Ambrose on the speed charts. With an entry list of ‘who’s who’ in road course racing, this weekend will be a true test for the GEICO team. Papis will look to hustle around the 2.45-mile road course in the same fashion that he toured the road course in California’s wine country in June.
“I’m very excited to get to Watkins Glen and get the #13 GEICO Camry on-track,” Papis said. “I’ve enjoyed racing here in the past in NASCAR and this is another opportunity for the GEICO team to gain experience in the Sprint Cup Series. We had a great race in Sonoma and we’re hoping to duplicate that effort this weekend.”
Papis and the #13 GEICO Toyota Camry will hit the track at Watkins Glen International for the opening practice session on Friday, August 7th, at 11:45 AM (ET). Qualifying will follow at 3:10 PM (ET).
The Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race is on Sunday, August 9th. The race will be televised live on ESPN beginning at 1:00 PM (ET), while the Motor Racing Network (MRN) will carry the live radio broadcast.
