FORT WORTH, Texas (September 29, 2009) – Buoyed by 500 vehicles logging 1,500 laps around Texas Motor Speedway, Speedway Children’s Charities-Texas Chapter raised a record $40,460 from Saturday evening’s Laps for Charity II event.

Laps for Charity, held in May and September annually, offers fans the opportunity to drive their personal vehicle around Texas Motor Speedway for three laps for a $30 donation as well as purchase enhanced packages that included dinner in The Speedway Club. Saturday evening’s event surpassed the previous mark of $38,372 set in September of 2008 and nearly doubled the rain-hampered Laps for Charity event earlier this year. Since the event was established 13 years ago, Laps for Charity has raised more than $550,000 to help benefit charities in Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties.

“It’s always great breaking a record, especially when that record helps benefit even more children in the Dallas/Fort Worth area,” Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said. “Laps for Charity has always been a successful event and the generosity of our fans has benefitted Speedway Children’s Charities over the years.”

Laps for Charity is one of several major fundraising opportunities hosted by Speedway Children’s Charities throughout the year. During the upcoming Dickies 500 race week in November, SCC will play host to several events including:

  • The Beretta Celebrity Clay Shoot presented by Coors Light on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Circle T Ranch in Westlake. The shooting event, which begins with registration at 11:30 a.m. CT, has openings for individuals at $500 and four-member team packages ranging from $5,000 to $12,500.
  • The Autotrader.com Sam Hornish Jr. Celebrity Bowling Tournament presented by Main Event in Grapevine, also on Thursday, Nov. 5. The event, which begins at 6 p.m. CT, features Hornish Jr., the former three-time IndyCar Series champ competing in the Sprint Cup Series with Penske Racing, and other NASCAR drivers and local celebrities. Four-person teams are available for $2,500. This event is open to the public and tickets for the general viewing area are $20.
  • The Texas Motor Speedway Track Walk with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie Joey Logano on Saturday, Nov. 7. Thirty minutes following the conclusion of the O’Reilly Challenge NASCAR Nationwide Series race, fans will get the opportunity to walk around the 1.5-mile track with Logano leading the way. Cost is $25 in advance or $35 at the speedway.
