Are you satisfied with your qualifying run?

“Our qualifying run was right where we thought it would be. The guys set-up our Red Bull Toyota just right for that run. I have had success at this track before in the ARCA and Truck Series, so I am hoping that we can apply that to both the Nationwide race tomorrow and our Cup race on Sunday. I think we will be in good shape.”

How did your car handle during qualifying?

“We made some adjustments. I felt like we had a good car in practice — just really chasing the track and the wind. We went back — the very last adjustment we made in practice didn’t work out for us. We went back one notch and made some other changes. The car was really good. It’s very difficult to predict the wind out there. I feel like I left a little bit on the table in (turn) one and two just due to the car moving around — not really knowing what to expect out of it, especially with the changes we made. It’s rare that the wind affects these cars, especially at 200 miles an hour — the speed overrides any wind change. But, it’s really strong out there today.”

Did the wind have any impact during qualifying?

“It’s moving the car around some, but a lot of it is just knowing how much down force you have if you have a headwind going in. That’s the biggest problem, it (the wind) has no constant direction. If you know what constant direction it had, you could adjust for it. When you have a headwind you have more down force. When you have a tailwind you have less down force. Not knowing what that’s going to be — not only does it have really high speed — it also keeps changing directions on us.”

How’s your car today?

“We’re not very good. We unloaded pretty tight and actually got it better for practice and then we were a little bit tight for qualifying. I think we have a little bit of work to do for the race.”

How was your qualifying lap?

“Not too bad. I’m a little bit on the tight side, which is actually interesting. In turns one and two, I got down to the bottom and picked up the gas and started shoving. I was like, ‘Ah crap’ and I thought that lap was junk. I was surprised it was 10th (on the board at time of qualifying). So, we got it good over there and I thought it was pretty good in turns three and four. The second lap I was a little better down there knowing what I had. I just went off into turn three and it bottomed out. That’s not going to do it. Overall it wasn’t bad. It’s a huge pick up from what we had in practice, so we’ll take it.”

What do you expect out of Sunday’s race?

“We’ll have to see. I felt our race trim was pretty good earlier today but you never know. A lot of these guys weren’t in race trim. The wind is going to die down throughout the weekend, so thank God for that. We’ll see what we can do with this thing. We’re decent. We’ll have a decent starting spot there and it’s something to work with.”

“Not much to say other than we were really, really tight out there. That’s where lost the speed we had in practice. We’ll drop farther than we want by the time this is over but we have a good No. 11 FedEx Camry. We will be ready for Sunday.”

Were you pleased with your car during qualifying?

“I’ve been struggling lately with my qualifying. I have a habit of overdriving the corner. That time there I drove aggressive but I had a pretty clean lap. Until you can do that consistently, you can’t really expect to contend for poles because the team is chasing the driving style more than the perfect set-up. So, I feel like I did a better job today.”

Did the wind have any impact during qualifying?

“Yeah. It plays with you. I drove a decent lap and we had a decent car. Everyone has to contend with the wind out there.”

How was your qualifying run?

“It was alright. It was just a little tight and when I got on the gas on exit of both turns it just pushed. I had a real good center and felt real good about my car. When I went for the gas, it just scooted over for about a lane — and when it scooted over a lane I had to really fight it hard and it wouldn’t turn.”

Did the wind have any impact during qualifying?

“I would say in practice I felt like it did because it was pushing you out in turns one and two. Now it feels a little bit more like a crosswind, and maybe not as much of a factor now. It depends on which way it blows. It doesn’t matter how hard the wind blows, as long as it blows in a direction that doesn’t really change one corner more than another. Whereas, if it blows from the front stretch to the back, that’s not bad. But, if it’s like blowing directly into a turn that will affect the way the car drives.”
