The 25th Running of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at The Glen Race Will Air Live on ESPN on Sunday, August 8

Watkins Glen, NY (October 07, 2009) – Officials at Watkins Glen International announced today that start time of the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen on Sunday, August 8 will be moving up to 1:00 PM in 2010. This new time is part of a more consistent television schedule that NASCAR and its television partners announced earlier today. The Glen is one of 19 races, including the 2010 Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 14, to be moved to the 1:00 PM EST start time.

“This is a direct result of the feedback that we have been receiving from our fans,” stated Michael Printup, president of Watkins Glen International. “We continue to encourage open and honest feedback from them in order to enhance their experience with us. They have been asking us to move the start time of Sunday’s race and NASCAR has clearly responded to their suggestions. We are thrilled to be able to make this change for them.”

Each August the track sends out an online survey following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend asking for feedback and comments on how WGI can enhance their experiences. WGI also encourages direct communication through their 800 number, website and e-mail at racing@theglen.com. WGI fans have asked the track to work with NASCAR to start Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race earlier in the day, for the past couple of years.

The new start time for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen is 1 hour and 15 minutes earlier than in 2008 and 2009. The earlier start time will help fans that attend the race return home at a reasonable hour. Fans will be encouraged to leave their homes earlier in the morning to help ensure they arrive at the track in plenty of time to enjoy the displays on Manufacturer’s Row, take in all of the sights and sounds of pre-race ceremonies, and be in their seat when the green flag falls.

The earlier and more consistent start times will impact a total of 27 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in 2010. In addition to the 19 races scheduled to start at 1:00 pm EST, five races will move to a 3:00 pm EST start and three others will start move to 7:30 pm EST.
