Jimmie Johnson captured his 46th-career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory Saturday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, when he held off Matt Kenseth to win the NASCAR Banking 500.

This is Johnson’s sixth series victory in 2009, his sixth series victory at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (which ties Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip for most all-time at Lowe’s Motor Speedway) and the victory moves Johnson into a tie with Buck Baker for 13th on the all-time series wins list.

Johnson continues to build on his points lead, as he now has a 90 point lead over Mark Martin (who finished 17th.)

Following Johnson and Kenseth to the drop of the checkered flag were Kasey Kahne finishing third, Jeff Gordon fourth, Raybestos Rookie contender Joey Logano fifth, Clint Bowyer sixth, Casey Mears seventh, Kyle Busch eighth, Martin Truex Jr. ninth and Kurt Busch rounds out the top-10 finishers.

Race Comments: Before an estimated crowd of 105,000, Jimmie Johnson won the NASCAR Banking 500 Only from Bank of America, his 46th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory. To start the race, the follwing cars dropped to the rear of the field for the reasons indicated: #21, #98 (transmission change).
