RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE CONTENDER QUALIFYING QUOTES FOR THE DICKIES 500 NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES RACE AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2009, PAGE 4.

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 THE HOME DEPOT TOYOTA: “I don’t know where that’s going to hold up. The car drove pretty good. It wasn’t bad. The track has quite a bit more grip. I felt like I left about a half a tenth out there which would put me on the pole. It kind of is what it is there [smiles]. But the good news is we’ve got a good car and hopefully we’ll beat out two cars here and get a good starting spot. I got into three and I got to the gas a little bit too hard initially, sent me off the line. I went through there the first time and I was like ‘Well it’s going to be a lot of grip’ and I went through the second time expecting the grip and it did just not as much as I thought. In qualifying you’d rather get a little extra and slip up a little bit than under-drive it. Maybe not in race trim but in qualifying trim seems to be like that. You can’t be too disappointed with it. I wish we were P1 but overall can’t complain that much.”

WAS IT A DISADVANTAGE GOING OUT SO EARLY? “I don’t think so actually. We were looking at the notes from the last race here and the earl ier the cars went out the faster they were then. Hopefully it stays about the same for us. We’ll see.”

SCOTT SPEED, No. 82 RED BULL TOYOTA: “We thought we’d be a lot better honestly. We missed it the same way we did when we didn’t make the race. It seemed like we didn’t account for the track loosening up at all for qualifying. After my lap I was sweating bullets. It was like ‘Man, did we just do this again?’ The car was really good in practice. We thought we had it really balanced and it was just a lot looser for us in qualifying and just couldn’t get off either of the corners. But our car in race trim, the very first run we had today, it seemed like we were pretty competitive so that gives us at least something positive to think about and work for for tomorrow.”

IS THIS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT TRACKS FOR YOU TO READ AND TO TRY TO KEEP UP WITH THE CHANGES? “I think it’s something in general. They’ve all got their little idiosyncrasies if you will but this is track where I came in the truck race. I’d never seen the place. I started the race and with 20 laps to go we were running seventh. We ended up crashing before the end of the race but it’s not like I didn’t have the place figured out. I don’t think it s super-complicated to drive. It’s just very balance sensitive and that comes when you’re running a 190 miles per hour average [smiles]. When you’re running that speed around these big corners if you’re a little bit loose or a little bit tight it’s going to cost you more than say at like a Charlotte for example.”
