Todd Bodine Wheels the Whelen Tundra to Top-20 Finish at Martinsville
Press Release“The Whelen Tundra was definitely a top-five truck. Even after the guys on pit road had to fix (the damage from rough racing with Kevin Harvick for second place), we were back to eighth place. We were gonna be all right. We wanted to obviously have a better finish than we got for Whelen to thank them for coming on board for us this weekend,” said Bodine who made more green flag passes (42) than any other driver on Monday. “But, it was typical Martinsville…you don’t know what’s going to happen until the race is over.”
The No. 30 Whelen Tundra pitted early for planned pit stops and made an unplanned visit at lap 188 after losing the heated battle for second place and scraping the outside wall. The crew made a variety of air pressure adjustments throughout the race and ultimately a chassis adjustment to fine tune the race truck.
“All the adjustments helped a little bit. The biggest thing was the wedge we took out there at the end to fix it – we probably should have done it earlier,” said Bodine. “The pit crew did a great job on pit road today.”
The next race on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule is at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, April 25th. The search to find sponsorship for the No. 30 Tundra is in overdrive as the team prepares for a race they aren’t sure they will attend.
“We know we aren’t alone in the search for sponsors, be we feel we really have the best package to offer a sponsor who wants to enjoy marketing in the Camping World Truck Series. We’ve run four races this season, we have a win and three top-five finishes and we’re second in championship points. It’s a great opportunity to reach the NASCAR fans on SPEED and MRN and we hope we can convince someone of that in time to get our No. 30 Tundra to Kansas,” said crew chief Mike Hillman Jr.
