NASCAR Goes “Metal On Metal” In Memphis On Saturday
Press ReleaseMEMPHIS (June 24, 2009) – Memphis Motorsports Park rolls out the red carpet Saturday for its first NASCAR showdown of the season – the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series ‘MemphisTravel.com 200 presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts.’
Like they have for the last 12 years, NASCAR fans, families, RV’s, teams, sponsors and drivers are on their way back to Memphis. And for the fifth consecutive – and final – year, those drivers will be racing for the sport’s most distinctive trophy, the ‘Elvis.’
“This trophy says ‘Memphis.’ It’s the talk of the NASCAR garage, and has definitely made its mark over these last five seasons,” said Jason Rittenberry, Memphis Motorsports Park vice president and general manager. “So don’t be surprised if you see him make a ‘comeback’ next year in victory lane.”
The race week schedule also includes a driver autograph session Friday night in the infield for season ticket holders, plus the infield Coca-Cola Fan Walk on Saturday – another exclusive benefit to season ticket holders.
The sparks, spectacle and short-track, side-by-side racing of NASCAR in Memphis make for one of the area’s greatest live sporting events. The family fun of the Kids Zone will again be open to everyone, as will the outrageous humor of race grand marshal Steve McGranahan, the “World’s Strongest Redneck.” And country rockers KingBilly will headline the post-race Comcast Concert Series.
