NASCAR officials announced Tuesday that Andrew Smith, who finished second in the season opening K&N Pro Series East event Saturday, has been dropped to a 30th place finish because of a rules violation discovered in post race inspection.
According to a release from NASCAR, Smith’s car was found to have: front shock absorbers that would not extend to the specified rule book mandated distance within the rule book specified period of time.
The penalty moved everybody finishing from second on back up one spot in the running order. It gave Ramstrom, of West Boylston, Mass., a sixth place finish in the event.
David Ifft, crew chief for Smith, has been suspended for the next two K&N Pro Series East events, suspended from NASCAR until May 26, and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.
