No. 6 car at Kentucky where he started 21st and finished 14th, even
after being involved in an incident on a restart.
DAYTONA DEBUT – This weekend’s start at Daytona will mark Ickler’s
first at the 2.5-mile superspeedway across any of NASCAR’s top
series’. Ickler did however, share seat time in the No. 16 with
teammate Colin Braun at NASCAR’s open test at the track in May.
ROUSH FENWAY AT DAYTONA - In 53 Nationwide Series starts, Roush Fenway
Racing has zero wins, 13 top-fives and 27 top-10 finishes at Daytona
International Speedway. The speedway is one of only four active
Nationwide Series tracks where Roush Fenway remains winless.
BRAUN TO RETURN AT CHICAGO – Colin Braun will return to action in the
No. 16 Con-way Freight Ford next weekend at Chicagoland Speedway. This
will begin a six race stretch for Braun which will also see him in the
No. 16 3M Ford in Iowa. In his last four starts in the No. 16, Braun
hasn’t finished outside of the top-12 with an average finish of 10.7.
DAYTONA CHASSIS SELECTION – Crew chief Rick Viers has selected RK-679
for this weekend’s Subway Jalapeno 250 at Daytona International
Speedway. This is a brand new chassis for the No. 16 team and is making
its debut this weekend.
Ickler, on returning to the No. 16 team in Daytona:
“This is a really exciting weekend for me with a lot of firsts: first
time racing at Daytona, first time driving the new Mustang and first
time working with Rick (Viers, crew chief). These new cars look really
great and I think it’s going to add an element of excitement to the
race weekend for sure.
I’ve been able to interact with Rick a bit
over the last few weeks and I’ve seen what he has done so far with
Colin (Braun) and the guys. I’m excited to be able to work with him
and continue to build some more on what he’s already accomplished.”
Crew chief Rick Viers, on heading to Daytona with the new Ford Mustang
and Brian Ickler:
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the new Mustang hit the track
in Daytona. I met Brian Ickler just a couple weeks ago and we are both
ready for what challenges Daytona has for our team and the new Ford
Mustang. We will work hard to get our car to handle well in the draft
which is so important to having success there. The guys at Roush Fenway
had a good test several weeks ago and I feel our Ford Mustang is ready
and will be very competitive.”
