“We’ve been busy the last couple weeks, I’ve been working with some of the great folks at Zachry and the team has tested at a couple of short tracks. I think we have grown a lot as a team,” David continued. “Its just a matter of time before we put it all together.”
Following the layoff, Crew Chief Jason Miller and the SS Green Light team are excited to get back to racing. “We had a couple of good tests, we learned some things that worked and some things that didn’t work, David and I have had success at Martinsville in the past, so I’m looking forward to going back there with him again.”
Martinsville is special to the Texas native as it is the site of his last NCWTS victory back in the spring of 2006, one of his four career victories. Current Crew Chief Miller was Starr’s Truck Chief when David won his last race.
With Miller on the pit-box last fall the David in the Zachry No. 81 was very strong at the flat paper-clip shaped half-mile track. “We ran in the top-five for the first half of the race,” Starr said. “Then we got behind on a pit stop, but we were good enough to fight back to eighth. We had a very good truck.”
Starr has eighteen career NCWTS starts at the Martinsville Speedway with one victory, three top-five finishes and eight top-ten finishes. David’s average start is 17.6 and his average finish is 14.2.
“I’m really looking forward to this weekends race,” Starr added. “I believe we can put the Zachry Toyota up front.”
The Kroger 200 is the 241st consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the 261st career start for Starr in the Truck series.
38 trucks are on the preliminary entry list for the Kroger 200.
Practice for the NCWTS Kroger 200 will be Friday, October 22nd at 10:00 a.m. with final practice 1:10 p.m. and qualifying at 4:30 p.m. The race will be shown live on SPEED TV Saturday, October 23rd at 1:00 p.m. It will also be broadcast live via radio worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and on SIRIUS Satellite Radio NASCAR Channel 128-XM104.
