What was a pretty cool off-season musing is turning out to be a pretty cool in-season reality.

Patrick Sheltra finds himself in second place behind Justin Marks as the halfway point of the ARCA Racing Series looms at Mansfield Motorsports Park Saturday night.

“I think it will be a good race to the championship between me and Justin,” Sheltra said.

That’s not to discount others like Craig Goess, nine-time champ Frank Kimmel, last week’s winner Tom Hessert or Mikey Kile, who are all very much in the title hunt.

“We’re good friends and before the season started we sat down and talked about it, and we really said wouldn’t in be cool if we were battling for the championship,” Sheltra said.

And how did this off-season bench race turn out?

“I told him I was going to win it,” Sheltra quipped.
